Health And Safety Policy
Health and Safety Policy for Cleaners TW9
This Health and Safety Policy sets out the principles, procedures and responsibilities that guide how Cleaners TW9 manages health, safety and welfare for employees, subcontractors, clients and members of the public. Our aim is to provide a safe and healthy working environment during all cleaning activities in residential and commercial premises.
Our Commitment to Health and Safety
Cleaners TW9 is committed to preventing accidents, work-related ill health and damage to property. We will identify and control risks arising from our cleaning operations, comply with relevant health and safety legislation and continually improve our health and safety performance. Safe working is a core part of our service and is never compromised for speed or convenience.
Responsibilities and Management
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the company management, who ensure that appropriate resources, training and supervision are provided. Supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy on site, monitoring compliance and reporting issues. Every cleaner has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety, follow safe systems of work and report hazards, near misses and incidents promptly.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Before starting regular work at a client property, Cleaners TW9 assesses the risks associated with cleaning tasks, equipment, chemicals and the specific environment. We implement control measures to reduce risks to an acceptable level and communicate these measures to all staff working at that location.
Where needed, written safe systems of work are created for higher risk tasks such as working at height with stepladders, handling heavy items, using powered equipment or working in confined or poorly ventilated spaces. Staff must follow these procedures at all times and must not improvise or take unnecessary risks.
Training, Information and Supervision
All cleaners receive induction training covering general health and safety, safe use of equipment, chemical safety, manual handling, personal protective equipment, accident reporting and emergency procedures. Site-specific instructions are given where required, including building access, fire exits, alarms and any particular hazards.
Refresher training is provided when tasks, equipment or products change, following incidents or when performance monitoring identifies a need for additional instruction. Supervisors carry out periodic checks to confirm that safe working practices are being followed and that equipment remains in safe condition.
Chemical Safety and COSHH
Cleaners TW9 uses cleaning agents and other substances in accordance with Control of Substances Hazardous to Health requirements. We maintain product information and safety data provided by manufacturers and ensure that chemicals are clearly labelled and stored safely when in our control.
Only approved cleaning products are used and only for their intended purpose. Staff are trained to follow instructions, dilute products correctly, avoid mixing chemicals and use appropriate protective equipment. Adequate ventilation is maintained where products produce vapours or strong odours, and exposure is minimised by using the least hazardous effective product available.
Personal Protective Equipment
Where risks cannot be fully controlled by other means, personal protective equipment is provided. This may include gloves, eye protection, masks or respirators, protective footwear and other items as identified by risk assessment. Cleaners are required to wear PPE as instructed, keep it in good condition and report any damage or defects so that replacements can be arranged.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
We aim to avoid unnecessary manual handling and use mechanical aids where reasonably practicable. Cleaners are trained in safe lifting techniques, including how to handle vacuum cleaners, mops, buckets, waste bags and any heavier items that may need to be moved.
All equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor machines and stepladders, is selected, maintained and used in accordance with manufacturer instructions. Defective equipment is removed from service immediately and reported for repair or replacement. Electrical leads are managed to prevent trip hazards and equipment is only used by trained staff.
Workplace Environment and Housekeeping
Cleaners TW9 maintains high standards of housekeeping during work to prevent slips, trips and falls. Wet floors are controlled by limiting access where possible and using warning signs while the area is drying. Tools, equipment and materials are kept tidy and stored safely when not in use, ensuring routes, stairs and exits remain clear at all times.
Staff must be aware of fire exits, escape routes and assembly points in every building they work in and must never block or restrict access to these routes with equipment or waste.
Protection of Clients and the Public
We take reasonable steps to protect clients, visitors and members of the public from risks created by our work. This includes managing slippery surfaces, controlling access to work areas where appropriate, using warning signs, minimising noise and avoiding obstructions. Cleaners TW9 staff are trained to be considerate and to report any damage or hazards they observe while on site.
Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences and work-related health concerns must be reported to a supervisor as soon as possible. Details are recorded and investigated to identify causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Cleaners follow client emergency procedures where required, including fire, evacuation, first aid and security arrangements. Staff must familiarise themselves with local emergency arrangements, alarms and exits at each site and act calmly and promptly in the event of an incident.
Monitoring, Review and Continuous Improvement
This Health and Safety Policy is monitored through workplace inspections, incident analysis, feedback from staff and clients and periodic management reviews. Where improvements are identified, procedures and training are updated and communicated to all relevant personnel.
The policy is reviewed regularly and whenever significant changes occur in our operations, legal requirements or industry best practice. Cleaners TW9 is committed to maintaining a culture where health and safety is everyone’s responsibility, and where concerns can be raised openly and addressed promptly.
